January 2016

Happy New Year!

Celebrated New Years Eve quietly at home and cheered the New Years in with our Costa Rica family via Skype.

New Years Day was spend with good friends at Chill Queen Mary and the kids had a blast in the 6 degree Ice Kingdom and mostly inner tubing down the icy hills.  It was a beautiful day to kick off the new year and looking forward to what 2016 has to bring.

The inner tubes were the best and Tanith was always courteous in line and helping others. At one point, Meghan was unable to lug the inner tube up the stairs so Tanith immediately jumped in and helped out...lugging both tubes up!

Of course Meghan and Tanith needed to get their face painted!

After all the fun...sleeping beauty!

Celebrating grandpa's birthday!

Tanith made a card and put $1.00 in the envelope.  She told me that she sometimes gets money for her birthday, but grandpa never gets money. Then when discussing what we should get grandpa for his gift, she knew immediately what he needed. She said that last time she was at his house, she asked for a marshmallow and grandpa told her that she ate the last one...so of course Tanith thought the best gift would be two bags of marshmallows :)

 Grandpa's favorites...cherry's

Tanith loves her dogs, but this may have been too much :) It was late at night and Tanith said she was cuddling with Rodger, well I dozed off for a little bit and when I woke up, this is what I found. She was sound asleep in the kennel and Rodger was looking at me confused with the whole situation :)

Before this happened, Tanith started to ask the questions all parents dread...mommy how do babies get in a belly and was she in my belly. Guess I need to start preparing more for these types of discussions.

Tanith loves Hutch

Jan 3 - Tanith asked me if she could go on my laptop...stating she knows how to use it because she uses one at school all the time. She told me she wanted to go onto "Googly Eyes" which translates to Google and then she started to search for games...time to child proof the computers.

Daddy made someone happy with her Princess Leia build-a-bear doll

On a Costco adventure with daddy, Tanith first schooled him on the correct bag of dog food we buy (he grabbed the wrong one) and then proceeded to tell him that she smelt snacks...she then said, I have a special gift for snacks.  Her gift proved to be correct and she enjoyed a few snacks before digging into a slice of pizza.

1/7: No pictures and you will thank me later. Tanith and I were out to dinner with one of my friends. As we were leaving we visited the bathroom before the drive home. Tanith walked over to a stall, looked in and said "gross", so I told her just go to a different stall. I did not see what was "gross" but Tanith explained it to me. She told me someone must have had surgery in the other stall because there was blood everywhere. She said it must have been major surgery.  I said "oh my" and inside I was laughing hysterically.  I figure one day when Tanith is older she will get this and laugh too.

Dress Up Time

Jan 10 - Tanith volunteered her time with The Cat Cove, which is a rescue group my friends started. Today was one of their adoption days and Tanith came to play with the kitties. She had a blast and of course wanted to take them all home, especially Whispers, whom she dressed up as a super hero. I wish we could have adopted the kitty, but it just was not the right time for us since we already had too many dogs at home. One day, Tanith will have another kitty (she was very sad when our cat Molly died) and she knew going in that we were not going to adopt a cat today, but that did not stop her from trying to win me over and the crying home did not help. She eventually stopped crying and I promised her we can go back next weekend to visit the kitties again. Here are some pictures from the day.

Jan 10 - visit to Disney to make our own Star Wars life sabers,,,just because and then dinner. Tanith is an eating machine still...the pictures show her eating clams as if they were candy!

Jan 16 - Spending time with family and to celebrate Rebecca's birthday. We went to dinner at "Kenny's" or Fu Wing Lo's and we had a nice surprise seeing Kenny, whom retired last year.  Tanith was so excited...she yelled Kenny is here and ran to him. We have been going to this restaurant for over thirty years and they have a special connection with Tanith, whom they call be her give Chinese name every time they see her.

Jan 17 - We gathered at Hillside Memorial to honor our family member Aunt Alexis, who passed away on Dec. 24. This was Tanith's first time to a memorial service and she seemed to manage the experience well. Tanith sat and listened to every word and during the service the officiant said, "who is God?", immediately Tanith's hand goes up to answer the question. I quickly lowered her hand and after the service, I explained to her why I lowered her hand. I told her the lady was not asking for an answer, but rather for us to think about the question.  So I was curious and asked Tanith what was she going to say, and she told me "that God is Jesus" ...LOVE HER!  After the service, we walked around the grounds and showed the girls where our family members who have passed rested and talked about who they were. I think Aunt Alexis was my number one fan regarding reading this blog about Tanith and even though Tanith only had a few opportunities to meet my lovely aunt, I think Alexis always had a special place in her heart for Tanith.

It was a lovely day of sharing tears, memories and laughter.

This was a first...Tanith falls asleep in the family room and I need to carry her to bed. She was so tired she went to bed still in her robe and slept through the night. Her intentions were to lay next to Rodger and watch a television show...but that quickly turned into sleepy time instead.

Tanith out with her daddy and visiting Master Mo's restaurant and took a picture with the owner.

Christmas in January...YES, finally had an opportunity to have dinner with the Rodgers and exchange gifts from Christmas. We were so busy talking I only managed to grab one photo of Matt and Tanith.

Random school photo opportunity. I usually drop Tanith off very early, but today I was able to drop her off at the regular time...this is a picture of Tanith and her BFF Latricia walking to their classroom.

Jan 23 - Having a fun Saturday with my girl and spent another day at the Cat Adoption to play with all the kitties.

Jan 24 - Celebrated and early CNY with friends. The girls are all growing up so fast and they are definitely playing together better now and you can see the friendships developing.

Jan 30 - Rain has been mostly a myth these days, with little teasers of sprinkles and Tanith loves the rain, so today it started to rain and immediately she was off to get on her rain gear. By the time she got ready and ran outside, well the rain disappeared. She stood out for a few minutes with hope in her heart that the rain would start again and kept a smile on her face...tomorrow's forecast is for a lot of rain so hopefully I will have pictures to document this weather phenomenon called rain (future note to Tanith, in California we have been going through a major drought and really need the rain).

So no rain in sight, we went shopping. I took awhile to find any shoes that fit, but finally the last store proved to be the right one. Ironically we were driving all over town and the shoes that fit, were just around the corner from our house.
