We spent two days in Vegas with Rick and the kids. We spent most of out time hanging out at the pool, played some blackjack (and won), saw Aunt Joan for brunch at the Red Rock Casino, had dinner with an old friend of Rafa's at the Paris Casino and walked a little portion of the strip. It was only108 degrees in Vegas, so the pool was the only way to keep cool.
We stayed at the Golden Nugget, which turned out to be a nice hotel off the strip. The pool had an enormous shark/fish tank that you swam up to and it felt like you were in their with them...but not :). If she could, Tanith would have spent the entire day and night in the pool.
After Vegas we headed out to Kingman, AZ to see Marlene, Don and Rebecca. On the drive I asked Tanith what those big things on the side of the road were...Tita tells her the our "moontains" with her Costa Rican accent. So Tanith said, oh moontains. I corrected her and said, no Tanith, they are mountains. She said, no Tita said moontains. Oh My! It did give us a great laugh and we captured it on video.
We had a nice visit and lunch before we left for Williams, AZ. We took the historic Route 66 and made it into the rustic town of Williams which was our pit stop before getting on a train and visiting the Grand Canyon. Williams was a great little town and we wished we had more time to spend there. The train left the station in the morning and had lots of entertainment on the ride to the Grand Canyon. Tanith volunteered to play the fiddle and was dancing to all the music. That was her highlight of the trip. We had a few hours to spend walking the rim of the canyon before we had to head back to the train. The Grand Canyon was breathtaking and we took a lot of photos. We had great weather, only a little bit of rain, but overall a pleasant day.
On the train ride back to Williams, there was a "hold-up" with cowboy bank robbers. Tanith was a bit scared at first, but quickly warmed up to the act. When we got back to town, we jumped in the car and drove home...7 hours on the road and Tanith was a trooper. She never complained, only got a little fuzzy towards the end of the drive, but we all felt uncomfortable by then.
